Utah has nine Medicaid HCBS waivers

Utah DHHS says Utah has nine Medicaid Section 1915(c) Home and Community-Based Services waivers: Acquired Brain Injury, Aging, Community Supports, Community Transitions, Medically Complex Children’s, New Choices, Physical Disabilities, Technology Dependent Children, and Limited Supports. For older adults, Utah’s list identifies the Aging Waiver for people age 65 or older. New Choices has an institutional-transition design

Utah’s New Choices Waiver is designed for people residing long term in a nursing facility, licensed assisted living facility, Type N small health-care facility, or another Utah licensed medical institution other than an institution for mental disease. Participants must meet nursing-facility level of care when they apply and throughout participation, and the waiver offers an option to move to an integrated community setting when needs can be safely met there (Utah New Choices Waiver).

New Choices is therefore not simply a general home-care application for someone already living in any private home. Availability is waiver-specific

Utah says waiver space is limited and may not be available in all areas.
