Georgia operates two veterans nursing homes
GDVS owns and operates Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta and Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville (GDVS State War Veterans Homes; GDVS locations).
Eligibility includes stated Georgia-residency history, qualifying wartime active-duty service with an other-than-dishonorable discharge, VA approval for skilled nursing care, and the other health criteria on GDVS's eligibility page (GDVS nursing-home eligibility criteria).
GDVS says a nominal daily fee applies, eligible veterans may use Aid & Attendance to help offset it, and VA pays the fee in full for veterans rated 70% or more service-connected disabled or admitted for a service-connected condition (GDVS nursing-home eligibility criteria).
Do not rely on a published bed count: GDVS materials and historical documents report inconsistent counts for both homes, so this page does not assert a current number (
GDVS State War Veterans Homes).
Disabled-veteran property-tax relief requires a current check
GDVS's statewide page still states a 2025 disabled-veteran homestead exemption of $121,812 even though the page carries a 2026 update date (GDVS Disabled Veteran Homestead Tax Exemption).
A federal benefits resource lists a 2026 Georgia figure of $126,526, and DeKalb County lists $126,526 for most levies and $129,026 for school levies; because GDVS has not yet updated its statewide figure, verify the amount with the applicable local tax office (MyArmyBenefits Georgia State Benefits; DeKalb County 2026 Homestead Exemption Information).
Coordinate the federal and state programs
VA benefits and Georgia Medicaid use distinct rules, so a VA award and a Medicaid budget should be reviewed together. Compare Florida's VA Aid & Attendance page and see VA Aid & Attendance for the national funding framework.
Ask a GDVS benefits counselor, DFCS, or an accredited representative how the current award letter and care setting affect a specific case.
Not mutually exclusive. Most families combine two or three funding pillars — this one rarely stands alone.
The
Journey Assessment ranks all ten pillars against your specific situation and
recommends the top three.
