Nursing-facility Medicaid is Georgia's institutional route

Georgia lists Nursing Facility Medicaid as its institutional long-term-services-and-supports pathway and serves aged, blind, and disabled LTSS populations through fee-for-service Medicaid rather than Georgia Families managed care (Georgia LTSS overview; Medicaid.gov Georgia program factsheet).

All nursing-facility admissions require PASRR, with Level I screening performed by Alliant Health Solutions and Level II by Beacon Health Options according to Georgia's LTSS overview (Georgia LTSS overview).

Financial eligibility is determined through DFCS while DCH is the single state Medicaid agency and sets Medicaid policy (Georgia Department of Community Health; DCH Medicaid Managed Care).

The resident's $70 personal-needs allowance

Georgia's DFCS 2026 table gives nursing-facility and institutionalized-hospice recipients a $70 monthly personal-needs allowance, unchanged since July 2019 (Georgia DFCS Appendix A1).

A secondary consumer site reports $75, but that figure conflicts with the primary DFCS table and appears stale or incorrect (SeniorPlanning.com, conflicting secondary figure; Georgia DFCS Appendix A1).

For a VA pensioner or surviving spouse in a nursing facility, the same table lists $70 with dependents and a $90 VA-benefit amount without dependents (Georgia DFCS Appendix A1).

Current primary figure: $70 per month. Check DFCS's current Appendix A1 rather than relying on the inconsistent $75 secondary figure (Georgia DFCS Appendix A1).

Patient liability is a separate monthly calculation

Georgia calculates patient liability from net income after allowable deductions, including the personal-needs allowance, an eligible community-spouse income allocation, and incurred medical expenses not covered by Medicaid (DFCS PAMMS §2553).

DFCS says VA Aid & Attendance and unusual or unreimbursed medical-expense reimbursements are excluded from the patient-liability and cost-share budget (DFCS PAMMS §2553).

Georgia's $11,122 April 2026 statewide average private-pay nursing-facility rate is also the transfer-penalty divisor, but it is not a promise of an individual facility's private-pay charge (Georgia DFCS Appendix A1).

What to verify before admission
