A retained life estate is not a Lady Bird deed
A conventional life estate deed can reserve a life estate for the grantor and name a remainderman who takes at death, outside ordinary probate. Keep title planning separate from eligibility planning
A deed may have a present-transfer effect that matters under the 60-month MA review, and the effect depends on its actual drafting and the interests retained.
