Alabama Long-Term Care Planning
Why Alabama planning turns on the income cap, QIT timing, five-year transfer review, and probate-aware home planning.
Alabama planning begins with the income cap
For a single institutional Medicaid applicant, Alabama's published 2026 figure is $2,982 per month in income and $2,000 in resources. Alabama's QIT packet makes the practical point plainly: income placed into a valid qualifying income trust can be disregarded in eligibility, but without that arrangement an applicant with excess income will not be eligible (Alabama Medicaid 2026 Income Limits; Alabama Medicaid Form 262 QIT packet).
The Agency packet says a QIT holds the applicant's income only, must be irrevocable, and must contain an Alabama Medicaid payback provision. It also says the first possible eligibility month is the month income goes into the QIT account, which makes signature, account-opening, funding, and proof of deposit timing important rather than merely clerical (Alabama Medicaid Form 262 QIT packet).
